Tell Me Your Thoughts!!
Lots of great things happenig right now and the first needs your input. On June 6th I will be heading to Canberra representing our club and MTBing in general at a forum on integrating MTBA with Cycling Australia (CA). (If you were not aware our side of cycling stepped away from CA a number of years ago believing it would be in the best interests of MTBing) So time moves on and we are now looking at coming back into CA. I have been vocal on the lack of direction and assistance to clubs in developing the grass roots of cycling at a sport and recreational level.
If you have some area of our sport that you want me to raise in the forum please send through a short note on email to me and I will make sure I take all of these to Canberra and get them included in any discussions. email me before June 4 so I can organise myself and print copies to take. Text time ladies!!
Our sms service is getting more advanced! We have been texting our whole membership and we can now send you information on just what turns you on.
To start with we have a group set up under our SMS Groups tile above our main page menu on the www.bsmc.asn.au web site just for ladies and their arranged ladies rides. We know this is a popular option for many ladies so sign up to make sure you know when the next ladies ride is and any other ladies events that occur. Remember, you will need to login to the site to see the SMS Groups as this service is only available for club members. If you have forgotten your login details, email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for a reset.
BSMC goes Mobile
We've made our web site mobile friendly, so it will display nicely on your smart phone. So next time you want to find out what events are on, you can do it direct from your your phone.
Gravity Gets Me Down!
Thats right some like getting a lift to the top of a hill and flying down others like riding up the hills. Well "Gravity Enduro's" are a fun competition that takes in both but in a less strenuous form than either XC or DH by themselves. The principle is simple you get timed on the down hill sections of a track and then ride to the next down hill section within a reasonable limit. Courses are not full on down hill but are often more challenging than a normal XC downhill section.
If you are keen one of our members has offered to lead a social "Gravity" ride at Mt Joyce Saturday morning meeting at 7.15am to ride by 7.30am. If you are interested give Jeremy a text or call on 0477 522 003 to let him know to look for you on Saturday morning.
Yakima Sunshine Series!
With 66 out of 201 entrants for the XCO on Saturday our club was well represented and I enjoyed meeting many of you under the club tents. We have round 2 Sunday week at Mt Crosby and I know many including myself will look forward to a few less rock gardens.
Congratulations to all those members who did race and those that managed to podium. Great to see smiles on the kids faces before, during and after at the event.
Our round comes up on June 16, at Karingal and we will need a lot of helping hands to make it a smoothly run day. Getting the track ready, setting up the day prior and duties on the day will need members to support. If you are racing and can lend some time it all helps or grab a friend or relative to help while you race?
Giveaway Entry and Accomodation to Paluma Push 21st July!
A very generous offer has been made by Alex Sheppard (BSMC member) for one lucky rider to take two entries in the Paluma Push plus accomodation plus assistance for travel costs up to $250.
Now you can not beat that hey. Only catch is you must have at least raced one race in a Wild West local XC race. Alex won this great prize but can not make that weekend so is offering to the first person to contact him meeting the criteria for transfering of having raced out West this year.
Give Alex a call if interested on 0438891898

"Can I handle the ride??" All social rides are just that "social" and groups maintain contact at each trail junction ensuring you don't get lost. As rides become more popular there can be breaking up into smaller groups that allow everyone to ride at a pace they are happy with (that is when a faster group may evolve but essentially the group is only as fast as the slowest rider). If you are beginning our Saturday ride is probably the best as our ride leaders are looking to help riders with trail knowledge and riding hints.
To make your club rides work members need to help keep the groups organised. If you know the trails and enjoy helping others please add your name to our list of willing helpers. You may only take one ride in a year but it all helps keep the rides regular and allow for more varied pace groups each ride. Send your name to This email address is being protected from spambots.
